The colder months can take their toll on your skin, making dry skin even drier and causing flaky skin and blemish outbreaks. At Intrigue Cosmetic Clinic, we pride ourselves on being the leading Kent aesthetics and skincare destination. Whether you are searching for Botox, dermal fillers, skin boosters or skin rejuvenation, our treatment menu is designed for healthy, happy skin outcomes. In this month’s beauty blog, our award-winning aesthetics practitioner and skincare expert, Amish Patel, shares his tips and advice for prepping your skin for the colder weather and the winter skincare essentials you need now.
“I get asked this question a lot”, explains Amish.
“What skincare you should use depends on your skin concerns. There are many reasons why your skin may not look great: Cold weather and harsh winds combined with central heating can create dehydrated skin, compromising your skin’s protective barrier. When compromised, this natural barrier can lead to irritated skin. This can leave a rough texture to the skin surface, which can be uncomfortable and make you self-conscious.”
Amish recommends that you increase hydration in both your skincare and fluid intake;
” During the winter months, increase your hydrating serums. Adding serums to your skincare can help battle dry skin, as it locks in moisture. Skincare worth buying includes products with hyaluronic acid, an excellent addition to your skincare and ideal for sensitive skin. Drink lots of water and eat foods with high water content, such as zucchini, spinach and tomatoes.
“Cleanse, Moisturise and Protect.”
“Follow this simple three-step skincare regime over the cold winter months, and you’re creating a protective barrier against moisture loss and keeping your skin hydrated. Add a serum ahead of your thicker moisturiser for thirsty skin. Exfoliate at least once a week to help remove dead skin cells, encourage fresh cell turnover and improve dull skin tone.”
“In winter, your skincare routine should include a moisturising lip balm, a serum followed by a richer moisturiser and an SPF barrier cream protection for your delicate skin barrier. My winter skincare tip is to cleanse your face with warm water. Apply your serums and moisturiser to damp skin for greater uptake. Add an eye cream to your daily routine to protect the delicate skin against the harsh winter weather. Always applying it gently with your fingertips.”
“Drier skin can be a problem for a lot of people. Even those with oily skin or combination skin can struggle to maintain healthy skin. Keep your skin blemish-free by cleansing twice daily with a gentle cleanser, and use a facial scrub weekly to remove dead skin cells. Your winter skincare routine should focus on promoting plump skin. It can still contain anti-ageing skincare ingredients, such as glycolic acid and retinol. Still, your main focus should be keeping your skin healthy, preventing water loss and protecting against harsh weather conditions.”
